Democrat Tim Walz and Republican JD Vance will face off Tuesday in the first — and most likely only — vice presidential debate before the Nov. 5 election.

Tuesday’s highly anticipated debate between the two vice presidents is expected to bring fireworks as Midwesterners duke it out on the campaign trail.

Vance has attacked Walz’s military record and claimed the Minnesota governor dodged deployment to Iraq, while Walz has questioned Vance’s background and highlighted that the Ohio senator is a Yale graduate who dabbles with “Silicon Valley billionaires.” while writing a bestseller about his “Hillbilly”. roots.

The 90-minute debate begins October 1 at 9 p.m. (Eastern Time) on CBS. It is moderated by CBS Evening News Presenter Norah O’Donnell and Face the nation Presenter Margaret Brennan.

According to the network, the CBS debate will not have a live audience and will be filmed in New York City.

When the candidate is asked a question, they have two minutes to answer it. The other candidate is then given two minutes to submit their answer. Both are then given one minute to rebut.

Although there will be no opening speech, each candidate will have two minutes to make a closing speech. Walz starts first, followed by Vance, who won a coin toss on September 26 and opted to quit the program.

Unlike the Sept. 10 ABC News presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris — where the candidates’ microphones were muted between answers — Vance and Walz’s microphones will be hot, increasing the potential for some explosive lines.

CBS said contestants would not receive the questions in advance. After the presidential debate, Trump claimed that Harris had been asked the questions before the debate in an apparent attempt to undermine her widely praised performance. ABC News rejected Trump’s claim.

The vice presidential debate takes place 34 days before the November election.
