The 2024 edition of NBA Media Day is here. It’s like the first day of school, photo day, and homecoming all in one. And it’s a wonderful start to the preseason schedule.

Players, coaches and executives will dish out pleasantries and sports platitudes and give us their best first look at the upcoming season. And of course, Jimmy Butler will make a cameo appearance and steal the spotlight with his appearance for another season.

This year, 28 NBA teams will hold their media days later on Monday. The Celtics and Nuggets kicked off the celebrations last week with their own media days in preparation for the NBA games in Abu Dhabi on October 5th. For the rest of the association, this marks the debut of 2024-2025.

We keep an eye on everything that’s being said around the NBA. Here are the latest news and nuggets from NBA Media Day 2024.

The Houston Rockets made some big offseason moves a year ago to bolster their roster and bring in coach Ime Udoka, but failed to make the play-in tournament in the deep Western Conference. Well, they have plans to make the postseason this time, even if the West looks even deeper this year. And they express them on media day.

Josh Hart reacted to the news memorably.

The ink has not yet penned paper on the Karl Anthony Towns trade, which would send the star from the Minnesota Timberwloves to the Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. However, according to Athletic Hockey writer Peter Baugh, the big man was spotted in the area Monday morning.

Here’s a snippet of the Knicks’ newest addition.

The rumored trade isn’t official yet, which should make things interesting on Monday.

This NBA media day will be marked by sadness after the NBA announced Monday morning that Hall of Fame center and beloved humanitarian Dikembe Mutombo died of brain cancer. He was 58 years old.

Tyrese Maxey and Paul George smiled, but Joel Embiid didn’t. It wasn’t until Maxey playfully slapped the ball out of his hands during a photo shoot on Monday and everyone laughed together in a clip posted to the team’s social media account. The mood around the Philadelphia 76ers is understandably better than it was a year ago, when they returned to training camp amid the franchise’s James Harden stalemate.

Philadelphia now has a new big three after signing George this offseason, and general manager Daryl Morey and coach Nick Nurse are relieved that the storyline is about getting George into the mix with Maxey and Embiid, not about extrajudicial drama.

“What I like this year,” Morey said, “is that the challenges are more traditional.”

“I think we have a better team than we did with everything that happened,” 76ers coach Nick Nurse said.

What does Victor Wembanyama’s second year in the NBA look like? This question will determine whether the San Antonio Spurs are a playoff contender in the Western Conference this season.

After a strong finish to his Rookie of the Year campaign and a subsequent gold medal run with France at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Wembanyama appears to be prepared for a lot. He’s probably also added quite a bit of muscle to his lean 7’1″ frame. Seems to be a welcome development for Spurs.

It looks like Atlanta Hawks coach Quin Snyder will be the first of likely hundreds of NBA coaches and players to speak to reporters on Monday. And right off the bat, some interesting thoughts on Dejounte Murray and a roster that now includes both Trae Young and No. 1 pick Zaccharie Rissacher.

While some teams start the party early in the day, live coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET on NBA TV, followed by coverage on NBA.com. ET below.

  • NBA TV Media Day presented by AT&T | 1-5 p.m. | NBA TV
  • NBA Media Day Live | 4-7 p.m. | NBA.com, NBA app

NBA Media Day is fans’ first look at their beloved teams as organizations hold an open session for media access to players and staff.

Aside from interviews, it is also a moment when players take their season photos, which has led to the more memorable images traditionally finding their way onto social media. Jimmy Butler was one of the players who capitalized on this tradition with his own flair for the occasion.

NBA action begins on October 22nd when the Knicks take on the Celtics and the Lakers host the Timberwolves in Boston. The rest of the club will join in the fun on October 23rd.

NBA Media Day Schedule:

All times ET.
