Spike Lee and the WNBAs Kelsey Plum exchanged some friendly trash talk on the sidelines of the Las Vegas Aces’ playoff game against the New York Liberty.

An over The WNBA star appeared to call back to Lee, although it wasn’t possible to hear exactly what was said between the two.

Whatever Lee told her, however, seemed to fire Plum up enough to score another 12 points and finish the game with 24 points and 4 assists. The New York Liberty still managed to take home the win, finishing the game 87-77.

“I can’t say exactly what was said, but I told him to speak up,” Plum said of her courtside conversation with Lee in a postgame interview on Sunday. “But it was nice and fun and really cool that he was here. Even in the last lap it was really cool that he was here.”

She continued: “I know he’s a huge sports fan, so it says a lot that he’s in the building and respects the sport. So yeah, I was just having fun.”

This isn’t the first time Lee has had an on-court interaction at a WNBA game. Lee appeared at the Liberty’s game against the Atlanta Dream at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Tuesday, September 24th Sports Illustratedhe gave the Liberty guard a high-five Sabrina Ionescu who scored 23 of their 36 points in the second half of the game.

“Spike Lee gave me a high five when I tried to throw the ball out of bounds. And I felt like New York was just injected into my veins at that moment,” the 26-year-old Ionescu said in a post-game interview at the time. “I thought we were winning this. It was just injected, it came all the way through.”

As for Plum, her WNBA season began in May, shortly after she filed for divorce from her New York Giants tight end husband Darren Wallerafter a year of marriage. (The couple, who tied the knot in March 2023 after a year of dating, filed to end their marriage in April.)

“I’m devastated,” Plum wrote via Instagram Story at the time. “I went through fire for this man, but now I see it’s time to go. God has given me an incredible life and I am truly so grateful for the deep love of my family and friends.”

In an interview with Fox in May, Plum opened up about the challenges she’s faced since filing for divorce from Waller, 32. “The offseason was tough for me,” she told the publication. “I mean, I’m sure everyone knows – it’s pretty public. But I personally am very grateful. I think my faith has grown tremendously and not only that, but I also know who I am. You become refined by fire, so to speak.”

She further told the outlet that she is very excited to get back on the court. “I’m looking forward to this season. “I’m looking forward to Las Vegas — trying to get it back together — and I know our fans are behind us,” she said in May. “I know this organization is with us. I know our team is stronger than ever.”
