Revealed: Details of how Michael Schumacher communicates after F1 legend appears ‘in public’ at his daughter’s wedding

Details about how Michael Schumacher communicates have emerged after the F1 legend reportedly made a public appearance at his daughter’s wedding last weekend.

Gina Schumacher, 27, married boyfriend Iain Bethke in the family’s luxury villa in Mallorca, which they bought for £27million in 2017.

Guests were reportedly banned from taking their phones to the wedding as the seven-time Formula One champion was reportedly in attendance.

The 55-year-old has virtually disappeared from public life since his life-changing skiing accident in 2013, which left him in a devastating coma.

A statement released nearly a year after the accident told fans he was no longer in a coma and was “undergoing a long period of rehabilitation,” but few details about his condition have been released since then.

The ex-wife of former Formula 1 team boss and former QPR co-owner Flavio Briatore, Elisabetta Gregoraci, previously revealed how Schumacher communicates amid his battle for health.

“Michael doesn’t talk, he communicates with his eyes,” she said. “Only three people can visit him and I know who they are.”

“They moved to Spain and his wife set up a hospital in this house.”

Spanish newspapers had reported in 2020 that Schumacher had permanently moved from the couple’s Swiss home to their exclusive property on the exclusive Las Brisas estate near Andratx in the southwest of Mallorca.

Rumors that Schumacher was unable to speak were confirmed by his son Mick in a 2021 Netflix documentary about his father’s life. He said, “I think Dad and I would understand each other in a different way now.”

The effects of a traumatic brain injury depend on a number of factors, such as: B. the type, location and severity of the injury, says Headway, a brain injury charity.

It adds that the symptoms of brain injury are varied, ranging from physical effects such as balance problems, headaches and dizziness, to cognitive, emotional and behavioral effects. These can include memory problems, fatigue and anger.

The last real update fans received was in 2023, when it was reported that Schumacher had been driving a Mercedes-AMG sports car to stimulate areas of his brain that he once used for racing.

Former Ferrari boss Jean Todt has spoken about his recovery several times since the accident.

In an interview with the French magazine late last year, he said: “Michael is here, so I don’t miss him.” (But he) just isn’t the Michael he once was. He is different and is wonderfully guided by his wife and children who protect him.

“His life is different now and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him.”

“That’s all there is to say. Unfortunately, fate struck him ten years ago. “He is no longer the Michael we knew in Formula 1.”

On December 29, 2013, Schumacher’s life changed suddenly due to the tragic accident during a family vacation in the French Alps.

He fell meters from a popular ski slope, resulting in life-threatening head injuries.

When Schumer decided to go off-piste, he was unaware of some boulders that were not visible through the snowfall.

His skis clipped one of these boulders and the sudden force threw him into the air – leaving him unable to avoid a head-first collision with another rock.

He fractured his skull and suffered a brain injury.

Ski patrols and a rescue helicopter team arrived at the scene of the accident within a few minutes. Eyewitnesses reported that Schumacher was conscious after the accident, but was unable to answer questions and was moving erratically.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the rescue team quickly immobilized him and transported him to the nearby Moutiers Hospital, where he arrived at 11:53 a.m.

From there, a helicopter flew him to the Center Hospitalier Universitaire de Grenoble, a leading medical facility with a specialized neurosurgery department, where he performed two life-saving surgeries to reduce pressure on the brain.

A later investigation revealed that Schumacher was traveling at a normal speed at the time of his accident and had not exceeded his skiing abilities.

However, his injuries – which would almost certainly have been fatal had the former rider not been wearing a helmet – are believed to have been aggravated by a motorcycle accident in February 2009 in which he suffered fractures to his head and neck.

He was then in a coma for six months to aid his recovery and did not return to his family home in Switzerland until nine months after the accident.

Medical professionals and his wife are believed to be providing round-the-clock care.
