John Harbaugh jokes about timing of Ravens’ RB’s new $6M contract

The Baltimore Ravens were able to stop running back Justice Hill before he became more expensive.

The Ravens signed Hill to a two-year, $6 million extension on September 20, securing their replacement for Derrick Henry.

The timing was right for the Ravens, as Hill has had two strong performances since then.

Hill, 26, had his best game of the season on Sunday in a 35-10 win over the Buffalo Bills. Hill ran for 18 yards on four carries and caught six passes for 78 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. In addition to his score that gave the Ravens a 21-3 lead in the first half, Hill had several crucial first downs in the game.

After the game, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh joked about the timing of the deal with Hill’s recent play.

“Justice Hill was very important,” Harbaugh said. “I’m just glad we re-signed him before he missed the last few games.”

In a Week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys, Hill also had 54 yards on seven touches.

Hill is often used in overtaking maneuvers to relieve Henry. However, he has a burst, which can make him a dangerous runner if the Ravens’ offensive line blocks as well as it did in Week 4.

Ravens editorial director Ryan Mink argued that the team has the best running back room in the league.

With Henry currently on a dominant run and making just $8 million, and Hill effectively pegging him at $3 million per year, the Ravens also appear to have managed their running back density wisely.
