Former Clemson WR Diondre Overton dies at 26

Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton has died at the age of 26, a Clemson official confirmed Saturday afternoon. Details on the cause of death were not released.

“Clemson football and the entire Clemson family mourns the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” the team wrote in a post to X on Saturday.

Overton, who played for the Tigers from 2016 to 2019, won two national championships with the program. In four seasons, he caught 52 passes for 777 yards and seven touchdowns as a key backup during the Tigers’ run through the College Football Playoffs.

Several of Overton’s former Clemson teammates mourned his death on social media Saturday morning.

Tee Higgins, a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals who played for Clemson from 2017 to 2019, wrote in his Instagram story: “Brother, I miss you already, man. I love you, 5L. This hurts so much right now. (sic)”
