While the Musk brothers’ comments about their previous immigration status may not have caused havoc at the time of the interview, they are causing a stir in 2024

Elon Musk has been known to be a critic of illegal immigrants since his visit to the US-Mexico border in 2023. After supporting Donald Trump, the tech billionaire regularly took part in political discussions online, particularly on X, formerly Twitter, which he acquired almost two years ago. Despite his self-proclaimed “immigration supporter” status, Elon has called for placing restrictions on who can enter the country. As immigration continues to be one of the hottest topics on voters’ minds, a controversial clip from a 2013 interview with the SpaceX founder and his brother has resurfaced online.

Kimbal Musk says he and Elon were “illegal immigrants” in a resurfaced video

In the decade-old interview at the Milken Institute Global Conference, the Musk brothers detailed the difficulties they faced during their move from South Africa to Canada and later the United States. The resurfaced clip, which sparked controversy online, shows the sibling duo discussing the challenges of raising money for Zip2, a now-defunct company Elon founded in 1995.

Kimbal Musk expressed her disappointment with the way the company was able to get a $3 investment, saying, “When they funded us, they realized we were illegal immigrants.” However, Elon quickly interjected: “Well, I mean…” only to be interrupted by his younger brother, who claimed that they were actually “illegal immigrants.” Elon then pointed out, “I would say it was a gray area,” as the crowd erupted in laughter.

Although the Musk brothers’ comments about their previous immigration status may not have caused much havoc at the time of the interview, they are causing a stir in 2024. With the US presidential election less than six weeks away, Elon has become a key figure in the political sphere as a staunch supporter of the GOP candidate. His controversial comments from the 2013 interview were shared across social media platforms, with netizens calling for his “deportation”.

On Saturday, a user from But MSM NEVER says a word while Musk condemns legal Haitian migrants. Deport Elon!”
